CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure


  • Primary: 3 written papers; no oral examination.

  • Intermediate: 2 written papers; oral and practical.

  • Final: 2 written papers; clinical, oral and practical.


Candidates who achieve the required marks in the written component of the FCMFOS(SA) Final examination but who fail the oral/clinical examination will be exempt from the written component of the next examination session.  Such exemption applies to one sitting only and must be exercised in the following semester.



Medals

The medal of the SOUTH AFRICAN SOCIETY OF MAXILLO-FACIAL AND ORAL SURGEONS was endowed in 1990 and is awarded to candidates who achieve outstanding results in Fellowship examination of the College of Maxillo-Facial and Oral Surgeons of South Africa.

Requirements


  • Primary: - No requirements.

  • Intermediate: - 24 months approved training. Not less than 290 notional hours of approved training in General Surgery and attendance at an approved course of not less than 150 notional hours in oral pathology and oral microbiology - ATLS.

  • Final: - completed no less than 12 months of training after successfully completing the Intermediate before the actual examination date of the Final; 42 months in a numbered registrar training post. - Portfolio.
