CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure


  • Primary: 3 written papers; Anatomy, Physiology; Pathology in the format of short answer questions and MCQs.

  • Intermediate: FCS(SA) Intermediate Paper 1, no oral examination.

  • Final: 3 written papers; clinical, oral and practical.  From the SS 2017, portions of the 3 papers will be replaced with a single best answer (SBA) format


Candidates who achieve the required marks in the written component of the FCORL(SA) Final examination but who fail the clinical examination will be exempt from the written component of the next examination session.  Such exemption applies to one sitting only and must be exercised in the following semester.



Medals

The MEDAL OF THE SOUTH AFRICAN SOCIETY OF OTORHINO-LARYNGOLOGY was endowed in 1992 and is awarded for exceptionally distinguished performance in the Fellowship examination of the College of Otorhinolaryngologists of South Africa.

Release of FCORL(SA) Final results

Please note that the results for the FCORL(SA) Final examination will be released on the published date as per candidates' letter of acceptance into the examination.  If they are available earlier, the C ORL will endeavour to inform candidates earlier of the provisional results.

Requirements

Primary: - No requirements.
Intermediate: - 12 months surgical training in approved posts. Must include 6 months general surgery and 3 months ICU. - ATLS.
Final: - 36 months in a numbered registrar training post. - Letter from HOD confirming acceptability of Portfolio must be attached to application.  Section 8 (logbook) must be attached to application.  ATLS certificate must be attached to application
