CMSA Appeals Mechanism

PLEASE NOTE that candidates that wish to lodge an appeal against the outcome of his/her written examination results must do so in accordance with the provisions of the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) are not made available to candidates for review in accordance with the CMSA’s Appeals Mechanism Policy.  A copy of the Appeals Mechanism Policy is available at www.cmsa.co.za

Examination Structure

 Three written papers as follows:

Paper 1 - multiple choice paper (single best type A and extended matching questions) without negative marking: forms 50% of the total (3 hours)
Paper 2 - short answer questions : forms 40% of the total (3 hours)    
Paper 3 - critical reading of a journal article : forms 10% of the total (2 hours)

A candidate will be invited to the clinical examination if he/she obtains a minimum of 50% overall for the written component of the FCFP(SA)

Final Part A - can only be taken after 3 years of registrar training

Final Part B - the Research Component which has to be submitted before or by the end of the 4th year of training and must be submitted 60 days before the Admission Ceremony.

The FCFP(SA) is only awarded once both parts are fulfilled.

Release of FCFP(SA) Final Part A results

Please note that the results for the FCFP(SA) Final Part A examination will be released on the published date as per candidates' letter of acceptance into the examination.  If they are available earlier, the CFP will endeavour to inform candidates earlier of the provisional results.

Requirements

Final Part A - Completed three years fulltime in a numbered registrar post. - Obtained a current CPR, ACLS or ATLS certificate of competence.
- Portfolio - Candidates who started their registrar training on or after 1 January 2013 will only be accepted if they have completed the CMSA approved portfolio available on our website.
Final Part B - Research component.
