Part I

  • Primary: FCS(SA) Primary - Post-internship qualification registered with the HPCSA or any other medical council.
  • Intermediate: FCS(SA) Intermediate - completed not less than 12 months of approved training as a registered medical practitioner, in surgery. Training during community service cannot be submitted. Of the 12 months training called for, not less than 6 months must be spent in general surgery, not less than 3 months must be spent in ICU and not less than 3 months in trauma/emergency surgery.
  • Final: - 48 months in a numbered registrar training post. Portfolio to be submitted at the time of applying for the Final

  • Primary: FCS(SA) Primary 2 MCQ papers, no oral examination.
  • Intermediate: FCS(SA) Intermediate 2 MCQ papers, no oral examination.
  • Final: 2 written papers;  Clinical and/or oral and/or OSCE and/or practical.

THE FOUNDERS MEDAL of the College of Paediatric Surgeons was endowed in 2010 by the South African Association of Paediatric Surgeons in honour of Professors Michael Dinner, Sidney Cywes and Robert Mickel, the first Professors of Paediatric Surgery in South Africa and is awarded to candidates who achieve outstanding results in the final Fellowship examination of the College of Paediatric Surgeons of South Africa.
